Assam Black

Assam tea comes from the sub-variety of Camellia sinensis called the Assam bush.

This particular Assam Black tea is from the Assam region of India. It is a blended tea as the leaves are harvested from several different gardens and plantations from around the region.

This tea presents with a slightly nutty flavor. It is mellow, and smooth. The tannins are very slow to emerge so this tea can be steeped for a significant amount of time before the bitterness begins to take hold.

This particular tea comes from plants that grew in a relatively low altitude. The Assam bush is typically a bit tougher as it evolved mostly in higher altitudes in a less forgiving environment.

In this case, the lower altitude provides this tough plant with far more nutrients which are gladly absorbed. This contributes to a plant that has much more vitality, nutrients, and a richer and more pleasing flavor.
